(The Witches of Benevento) In 1999 a proposal for the composition of a work for flute and strings inspired by the city of Benevento 'the city of witches', came to Anzaghi. The author did not allow this occasion to delve into the witchcraft of Benevento escape him, and set himself to work predisposing a score conforming to the requested instrumentation: one soloistic part for flute and five parts for strings. An excess of witchcraft produced, however, produced baleful effects: there was no performance and there was news of other and more gloomy events. The solitude in which the author loves to hide himself protected him from these. The lack of a performance is not always a calamity if it prevents - inspite of itself - a bad performance. Statistics tell us that the first performances of contemporary music are deficient. If the lost performance had, on the other hand, been a good one? In doubt, the author preferred to give the blame to the witchcraft of Benevento to which - with burning Pythagoric mirrors - he returned the calamity.

The score was finalised. But, being a point of arrival as much as of departure for sorcerous embroilment, the author, for now, does not wish to speak of it on-line: Eventual questions concerning this piece will be welcomed only from such people as may already have been instructed by an exorcist.

Anzaghi, who has old relationships with witchcraft and sorcery, does not limit himself to crossing his fingers. He stirred up the fire under the cauldron in which he had 'conjured' Le Streghe and reforged the material therein into a new score intitled Archindò, requested from him by a chamber symphonic institution of Milan. Replicating the previous behaviour, the institution did not honour its duty to perform. This orchestra did not have a long life.
